Poor credit secured loans are a great way to improve you credit while still being able to access credit lines that can work for you. Unlike poor credit unsecured loans, poor credit secured loans will be much easier to get approved for due to the fact that you will be supplying the lender with collateral to secure the loan. When you are looking for a poor credit unsecured loan you are going to be limited to shady lenders that will charge you the moon in terms of rates and fees for your loan.

With a secured loan, you will be able to go to the more reputable banks and lending institutions and make your case with a good chance at getting approved as long as you can have the necessary collateral the lender requires. Most banks provide some version of a poor credit secured loan and the amount and terms you qualify for will depend heavily on the amount of collateral you can provide. Many lenders will readily supply you a loan for up to the amount of collateral you can show them.

For example, if you have two thousand dollars in your savings account and are willing to use that as collateral then most banks will not have a problem issuing you a loan for up to two thousand dollars. Many banks will have restrictions placed on the kinds of collateral they will accept, and many banks will only accept cash, or real estate. Some banks do accept other forms of collateral though, and these can be anything from precious metals, to automobiles, to land, to investments. This of course depends heavily on the lender, and it is important that you ask beforehand what kind of collateral you can supply for your secured loan.

Secured Loans and Credit Cards

Having poor credit doesn’t have to exclude you from being able to receive the kind of loan you need, and while most  poor credit secured loans are made as personal loans, secured credit cards can also be an option if you are willing to go that route. Getting a secured credit card can be a great way to rebuild your credit without taking on much risk. Most banks offer some form of a secured credit card, and most of the time the lender will provide you with a card with a limit up to the amount of collateral you are willing to supply.

As long as you can make your payments on time each month you will be building your credit back up without having to worry about making the kind of exorbitant payments some personal loans will require. If you can make your payments each month you will not have to pay interest in most instances, but this depends heavily on the kind of card you were issued so consult with your lender to see what the terms of you card are exactly. The secured credit card can allow you to avoid poor credit lenders all together; as most major banks will have some form of a secured card they can offer you.

Making a Decision

In then end getting a poor credit secured loan in the form a personal loan or credit card is up to you, and getting approved is going to weigh heavily on the amount of collateral you can supply a lender. If you have substantial collateral built up, then it is just a matter of finding the right lender and making sure they accept the kind of collateral you are willing to give them. Making your payment on time each month will allow you to build your credit back up and this will then make you eligible for better loans in the future. Secured loans are great for individuals with poor credit for this reason, and don’t hesitate to shop around for the best deal as many lenders offer many varieties of these kinds of loans.
